Off to the Races!
Last weekend we went to the zoo. We got to see a lot of different animals, including, tigers, bison, elephants. We also took in a dolphin show. It started out with trained seals, and the finale was a dolphin show, quite entertaining. Afterwards, we went to the race tracks and put 5,000W each down on a couple of horses. The atmosphere at the tracks were amazing, inside the place was buzzing with excitement. The racetrack was the highlight of the trip. My horse led for the first two-thirds of the race, but lost steam towards the end wound up in fourth. K’s horse came in third. Next stop was Coex where we tried a new restaurant for a belated birthday lunch. We did some shopping but didn’t really buy anything. We left Coex empty handed.
We went to Itaewon next and picked up some Reese Peanut-butter cups, my personal kryponite. I can’t say no those tasty treats. Actually I can’t say no to most sweets and candys, but since you can’t really buy peanut-butter cups in Korea it makes them all the more special. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder. We finally got back to Dajeon around 10pm. Gizmo was all love and for about 10 seconds before the biting began. We went out to Santa’s ( a local expat bar hosted by the great Mr. Ho ) for an early St Paddy’s day drink with friends. I went home ahead of K, and was fast asleep when she returned. Then around 4:30am Gizmo started meowing. Inconsolably. Meowing. This had been happening a little bit all week, as Gizmo new routine involves waking me at 4:30ish for some food and/or play. Then he started giving his usual ‘get up’ nips, ears, cheeks, nose, legs. He was intent on waking us up. After about 10 or 15 minutes, we locked him out the kitchen and drifted off to sleep in a sea of muffled mews. We figured Gizmo was being worse because he spent the day alone, but I was too tired after having my sleep disturbed all week to tend to his early morning demands for play and late night snacks.
We woke up at 10 the next morning. K found a small pile of gizmo turds in the bathroom. Then we realized why Gizmo had gone berserk the night before, we’d mistakenly closed to the laundry room door which barred his access to the litter box. Poor little guy was simply trying not to poop on the floor! We let our little buddy down. I will say though that gizmo placed his deposit next to the drain under the seat. It was the best he could do given his options. I think had we left the toilet lid up for him, he would gone right there in the toilet. Overall it was a good weekend, I was glad to get of the Seoul rut , the Kyobo…Itaewan… Insadong loop. I’m going to Seongnam for my Masters orientation on the 27th so I’ll probably spend another day in Seoul, and try to stay out of the rut.
