Things that Go Bump in the Night…
K and I were relaxing earlier tonight when we heard a crash. I jumped off the bed, slipped on some shoes and ran downstairs to find my motorbike in the center of a car sandwich. There was already a crowd forming and they got a genuine display of authentic Newfie cursing and temper. Someone drove their white Matiz into my parked bike and wedged it up against another car. After about a minute a woman got into the Matiz and started to move the car. She got an earful from me, I told her in English and Korean not to move it. But she did and she drove off down the street leaving my bike tipped over on the ground. However before she got away I was able to shout her plate number out to my friends who live across from me and K on the second floor.
Someone called the cops and now there was nothing to do other than wait. I spoke to a couple of people who told me that a man and woman were drinking earlier and the man was actually the original driver. When the cops showed up they asked for my license and took my contact info. They interviewed witnesses and took statements. There was another cop coming who would take a closer look at the crime scene. When he showed up he collected my info again, including my insurance. I called my partner teacher at the middle school who was gracious enough to come out and interpret for me. So here’s what happened…
The man and woman were drinking in the restaurant across from our apartment. After they finished they got in their car to leave. First they hit a church van, then they attempted to speed off and drove straight into my bike. The guy got out of the car and went God only knows where, while the woman came back and drove off in the car after our encounter. In all they damaged three vehicles and ran from the scene of an accident. I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes. As for my motorbike, it’ll go to a bike shop for repairs, it has a busted tail light, and some scratches. I’ll talk to the shop owner tomorrow about getting it picked up and checked out for damage. Since all my stuff is in order, the Matiz couple will be on the hook for the repairs.
