I went to Jinhae for the Cherry Blossom festival on Friday. It was fairly easy to get their, I just had to take a train to Daegu and switch to the Jinhae train from there. Although I’ve lived in Korea for four years, I’ve never really stopped to appreciate this sight. K & I tried to go to a local one last year but cherry blossoms are fickle, in full spectacular bloom one day and gone the next.
The city itself was gorgeous, cherry blossom lined the streets, in full magnificent bloom. I did some exploring early Saturday while things were still quiet and enjoyed a nice hot bowl of BLOW-FISH SOUP (복지리) for breakfast. The soup was actually quite tasty, you could even say it was to die for. OK, bad double entendres aside the soup was really genuinely good. A nice reminder that there’s more to korean cuisine than pepper paste and kimchi. I met up with friends who arrived later in the day and we walked around taking snapshots as tourists tend to do. The day finished early for a few of us who had to get back home so we found a restaurant (the dirtiest restaurant I’ve ever seen to boot) and had some less than spectacular food. After almost an hour of searching for a taxi – it is festival time after all – we found ourselves on a bus headed home. I’ve posted the shots from the trip below courtesy of the very useful FB fetcher plugin for wordpress
