The Build – Day Four
The weather today is actually cloudy and cool. The walls are just about finished. Before they can go up we have to start building up the floor inside. So three of us are on shovels and tossing dirt from the back yard into what will be the floor while the other group works on the side walls and cleaning up the site. Before long we’ve dug a decent little hole. The work right now is reaching a bottle neck. At one point there’s nothing for us to do but lean on our shovels and watch while the others put the wall up. So we line up and pose while another group member gets a couple shots of what we’ve come to call ‘city-worker mode’ – leaning on your shovel.
By day’s end the walls are all up and the roles are somewhat reversed. We’ve dug our hole deeper and set up a pair of mud pits that’ll be used for the next day’s work. There’s a little time now to go exploring with camera . The fog makes for nice shots. Before we head outhe kids are waiting as well ready for their photo ops, as well as fun and games. They have hacky sacs made of rubber from bike tubes that’s been tied together, and today’s there’s also a sort of hockey-cricket hybrid game developing. There aren’t any real rules yet, one person just rolls a small ball on the ground and the other person swings and tries to hit it. We get to play for a little while before we head out.
