2020 is Hindsight – Ukraine – Lviving it up

Newfie Note: This entry was left half-finished back in January. I’ll be posting more in the coming weeks to update what has been a very eventful year.

2020 is now officially hindsight.  Of course the biggest news item from the last year was the pandemic.  Over here things shut down back in March, so it was quite lucky that RS and I managed to go on one last trip before the world went into lockdown.  We visited the Ukraine and met up with our friend RB for some travels. We had chicken Kiev in Kiev, and then RS and I took a side trip together to Lviv by train. Travelling by train is an absolute joy. I wish Canada’s rail network got as much love as rail travel gets in Europe. If the capital cities in Canada were connected by a high-speed rail link, I think the domestic airlines would be out of business.

Lviv is an absolute gem of a city! We enjoyed a yellow umbrella walking tour and the local food as well. At night we went to a live bar that served up some very interesting and political brews. The next day we were back aboard the train and headed for Bukovel, a ski resort town in the area of Ukraine where RB’s family originally hails from.
