Winter in Doha!

Winter in Doha!

‘Winter’ has come to Doha!  Not the -30 winter of my childhood but in Doha when the temperature dips to the high twenties they call it the start of winter.  People are out more enjoying the weather.  What passes for the start of winter here is more like late summer to me.  For me, this is the best time of year. MIA Park’s Saturday Bazaar has started and will continue until sometime in May.  The bazaar is really just a small flea market,  but you can get some really nice food there and then head into the park and enjoy a meal and take a break from the noise and commotion of the city.  Whenever R has the day off we head over and take advantage.

Today we came early, and got some Bakso, an Indonesian soup with noodles, meatballs and fish cakes.  There’s an optional green chilli paste you add to it to give it some kick.  We also got some Nasi Bakar, a chicken fried rice that is served wrapped up in banana leaves.  It’s good but I prefer the soup for its spicy bite.   As the day goes by and the sun goes down, the park gets more crowded and inevitably noisier. It’s still a great place to relax with a good book though.
