The Build – Day Three

The Build – Day Three

The weather starts out foggy today.  A few of us are out taking advantage with our cameras taking advantage of this new perspective on the scenery.  We’re back into our cleaning and weaving groups.  I spend some time in each, we’re all working like a well oiled machine now.  On the first day cleaning we were all slow and clumsy, today everyone actually looks comfortable in their tasks.

By lunch time the weather has cleared up.  We aren’t taking the bus to lunch today.  We’re riding bikes! They’re all the same size and type that the locals use. I bang my knees on the handlebars a couple of times before I wise up and adjust.  One of our group members was a little too short for the bike, so she wound up on the back of mine and got a ride to the restaurant with me.  We all arrive a little early at the restaurant and watch as our food is prepared in front of the house in a sort of outdoor kitchen.

Dinner is great.  They’re serving Nepali food, a lot of Nepali food, bellies will no doubt have expanded by the time we reach our respective homes.  Heading back to the site, two of us stop by a house and talk to a couple of elementary students, two young girls in uniform.  I’m struck by how well they speak English.  Their relatives are sitting on the front porch and after introductions the cameras inevitably come out.  The girls are interested in seeing the house we’re working on.  We give them directions and head back to the site.

Weaving, cleaning, weaving, cleaning. The walls are almost finished.  Much to my surprise the girls showed up to the site to meet and chat with the other team members. My day finishes with a couple more attempts at hacky-sac with the other kids and some goofy photo ops.
